Sun, sand and sea, in combination, are why 10 million people flock to Mallorca every single year. The largest of the Balearic Islands is drenched in sunshine, lapped by the warm Mediterranean Sea and dusted with golden sand divided between bays, coves and windswept, rugged shorelines. Despite the main stereotypical view of bargain package holidays complete with lots of drinking and red-raw burned skin, Mallorca is actually extremely diverse and has much to offer all kinds of travellers. From families looking for a fun-filled seaside holiday to adventure loves in search of adrenaline activities and rural escapes this Mediterranean island has it all.

The island’s best beaches cover the east and north coasts. The sheer number of them means resorts are almost continuous. Despite such development the beaches remain attractive and appealing, although during August you may have little towel space. If you want something a little more secluded, head to the beaches on the south coast.
They are harder to get to but they are worth the trouble. Most are fringed with lemon groves and pine trees and the small coves and bays are sheltered and ideal for snorkelling

If you want some culture, the island’s capital Palma de Mallorca is a real gem. The flash boats in the harbour hint at some of the luxury restaurants and hotels you will find and the old town with cobbled streets and artisan houses is charming, plus the grand Gothic cathedral is among the most spectacular in Europe map.
Mallorca is also a great place to escape to. Once you leave the bustling capital and buzzing resorts of the east coast you can head to the rural centre or the more secluded coves and bays of the south and west. Here you can find exclusive all-inclusive resorts where you can relax and unwind in peace. You can partake in morning yoga, mountain hikes or kayaking along the coastline, depending on just how active or inactive you want to be

Whatever you’re into, you shouldn’t miss the spectacular Serra de Tramuntana Mountains. The mountain range runs along the northwest coast and is made up of sweeping bays and dramatic rock formations. Thomas Cook is one of the largest providers of all inclusive holidays in Mallorca and has an extensive range of hotels and resorts to choose from
